Flooding and Severe Potential Through Mid Week

Flooding and Severe Potential Through Mid Week

Overview
Successive upper level disturbances are expected to pass over the region the next couple of nights, bringing additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms to the region. Storms are expected to develop west of the area each afternoon, before spreading east into North and Central Texas both tonight and again Wednesday night. A few strong to severe storms will be possible, particularly west of Interstate 35. In addition, localized heavy rainfall and flooding may become an issue due to recent rainfall saturating soils and expected rapid run off, particularly along and north of the I-20 corridor where the heaviest rains have both occurred this past week and are forecast this week.  A Flash Flood Watch is currently in effect through Wednesday evening for these same areas and may need to be extended in coverage or time depending on how this complex system evolves through Thursday morning.

Bottom Line
Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected later today through Wednesday night/Thursday. A few severe storms will be possible this afternoon and tonight, then again late Wednesday night. The main concern may actually be heavy rain and localized flash flooding, especially along and north of I-20 where soils are saturated.
